Foundations before spend
Four checks before the first pound went back into ads.
- 01
Track
Purchase tracking set up on the store and tested with real orders.
- 02
Feed
A Merchant Center product feed, so products could appear in Shopping.
- 03
Fix
The speed and indexing problems Google was flagging, fixed.
- 04
Launch
Search, Shopping and Performance Max restarted on top.
01
The challenge
The account had gone quiet. The brief was to grow online orders again, profitably.
An account that couldn’t learn
Without purchase tracking, Google had no way to tell which clicks led to sales.
Products missing from Shopping
Furniture shoppers compare on pictures and price. Without a product feed, the store couldn’t appear where they compare.
A site Google was flagging
Search Console was reporting indexing and speed problems that hurt both ads and organic search.
02
What I did
I fixed the foundations first, then restarted the campaigns on top of them.
Tracking first
Set up purchase tracking on the store and tested it with real orders.
Product feed
Built the Merchant Center feed, so products could appear in Shopping results.
Site health
Fixed the speed and indexing issues flagged in Search Console.
Landing pages
Improved product and category pages, so shoppers arriving from ads were more likely to buy.
Campaigns
Restarted with Search, Shopping and Performance Max, working alongside Google’s account strategists.
03
The outcome
An account rebuilt to learn from every sale.
- Every online sale measured and fed back to Google Ads.
- The product range live in Shopping results.
- Speed and indexing issues fixed on the pages that matter.
- Search, Shopping and Performance Max running on clean data.
04
What I learned
Restarting a dormant account is tempting to rush. The fastest way back to profit is usually slower at the start: measurement first, then spend.
Every e-commerce account I take on now starts with a tracking and feed check before any budget goes in.
How this shapes my work today
- Test purchase tracking with real orders.
- Get the product feed right before Shopping.
- Fix what Google is already flagging.
- Restart campaigns on clean data.
